WHAT’S YOUR WALL?
But the poor man had nothing at all. – 2 Samuel 12:3
My business mentor — the one who never finished college — explained his success this way: “Intelligent, educated people have choices. If they don’t like their job, they go to another one. And if they don’t like that job as well, they jump ship and take another one. Because companies seek them out. But I had no choice. I was poor. I did not do well in school. I was kicked out of college. I had no choice but to make my business work. It didn’t matter how difficult it was. I just had to make it work.”
His back was against the wall.
I now realize that this “wall” is very important to success.
What was my wall?
Before I got married, I was a poor missionary, earning a small salary that could pay for a small apartment, a simple car (which was given to me), and very little else. I knew my wife and I would have kids soon. How would I support them?
My back was against the wall.
I wanted to remain a missionary for the rest of my life. But the tiny salary of a missionary doesn’t really grow through the years. With God’s help, I conquered my wall. I wrote books. I established small businesses. And now I am able to give my family a comfortable life and still remain a missionary. Bo Sanchez (bosanchez@kerygmafamily.com)
Reflection: What is your wall?
Grant me strength, Lord, to conquer the walls in my life.
