THE WISDOM OF GOD
… that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. – 1 Corinthians 2:5
I
love that cartoon clip of the Incredible Hulk assigned to the
complaints department of a store. That way people will think twice
before they complain. What a smart move from the Human Resources
department (HRD) that placed him there!
But our Lord’s ways are not as overtly smart as compared to that
cartoon. His ways are not our ways. Think of David being pitted against
Goliath. He’d be the last candidate of HRD. Or Paul, who was then Saul,
to preach the Gospel. Why send a persecutor? It was unheard of. And
recruiting fishermen as Apostles? What poor credentials. How about God
taking the form of man to die on a cross? Now that’s a clever way to
deceive Satan!
Yes, we know now they couldn’t have been better choices. Just as a
child’s wisdom can sound foolish to adults, man’s wisdom can sound
foolish to the Lord — for He knows best. Many saints understood this and
were wise enough to “let go and let God.” But man, in his pride, finds
it hard to exercise faith above reason. Lord, help us! Cristy Galang (cristy_cc@yahoo.com)
Reflection: If you were to measure your faith, would you have a passing grade?
Lord, please shower us with the virtue of humility and desire to do Your will that enough faith may grow in our hearts. Amen.
St. Jerome Emiliani, pray for us.
