JUST TOUCH
She touched his cloak... and her bleeding stopped at once. – Mark 5:27, 29
Cancer
had wrapped around Connie’s spine and she could no longer walk. She
needed an operation so a metal plate could be screwed on to her spinal
column. But initial tests showed her bones were already brittle.
Expecting a difficult procedure, she wanted Fr. Fernando Suarez to pray
over her at his healing Mass before the surgery. But she got the time
wrong and had to wait for two and a half hours. Fr. Suarez arrived just
as the Mass was scheduled to start and only had about a minute to pray
over her. Great disappointment about the long wait and the short
pray-over gripped her until she felt God reminding her about the woman
who touched Jesus’ cloak.
That’s when she realized she was that woman. She immediately felt her
operation would be successful. During the surgery, the doctor discovered
that her bones were not brittle at all. Miraculously, they were so hard
that it took longer to drill holes for the screws.
Our prayers need not always be kilometric and drawn-out to be heard.
Short and heartfelt prayers get the same attention from God. Lella M. Santiago (mirellasantiago@yahoo.com)
Reflection: Some prayers get answered in an instant; others take more time. How hard do you hold on to God when the wait is longer?
Lord, I believe that I only have to reach out to You with great faith and You will hear my prayer.
St. Joseph of Leonissa, pray for us.
