A VOCATION DETOUR
For the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable. – Romans 11:29
Domingo and Amelia had an inner call to the religious life. Because of the war and their individual family set-up, pursuing their vocations was close to impossible. Eventually, after the war, they ended up together. They bore two daughters who later entered the convent. Now with an empty nest, the desire to enter the religious life resurfaced. But who would accept a married couple? They wrote to Rome. Their marriage was officially dispensed. Domingo became a Dominican brother with solemn vows while Amelia became a Dominican Sister (just like her two daughters) with perpetual vows.
Israel is God’s chosen nation. Even if the Jews continue to reject Christ as the promised Messiah, God didn’t stop to offer salvation to them.
According to two Bible commentaries: “[T]he privileges and invitation of God given to Israel can never be withdrawn. They are beloved by Him because of their forefathers.”
We may have chosen a path apart from what God wants for us. We may have strayed from Him when we sinned. But God is faithful and He will lead us back. His love is irrevocable. Judith Concepcion (svp_jmc@yahoo.com)
Reflection: What is God’s original call for you? You may have taken a detour but, in the end, God’s plan for your life will still prevail.
Lead me back, Lord, to where I truly belong — in Your loving embrace.
St. Wolfgang of Regensburg, pray for us.
