BEING LIKE

BARTIMAEUS

 

“Take courage; get up, Jesus is calling you.” – Mark 10:49

       In many ways, I can relate to Bartimaeus in today’s Gospel. Many times in my life, I find myself crying out to Jesus, asking him to “have pity on me.” Usually, these are the times when I fall into sin, and when I am blind to the needs of those around me, especially my loved ones. Whenever I am selfish or ill-tempered or impatient, I find myself — like Bartimaeus — at the “roadside,” begging for God’s mercy and forgiveness.

       Thank God then for His message for me — and you! — today: He calls us to take courage and get up… to rise up from the depths of our sinfulness… to break free from the bondages that hold us captive… — like Bartimaeus — to throw aside the “cloak” of darkness that clothes us, spring up, and come to Jesus.
