WHO IS THE
STRONGEST ?
I see in my members another principle at war with the law of my mind... – Romans 7:23
On his deathbed, surrounded by his greatest generals and kings,
Alexander the Great was asked, “To whom do you give your kingdom?” The
dying monarch replied, “To the strongest among you,” and promptly
expired.
We all face the same question every day. We are often made to choose:
body or soul, sentiment or commitment, discipline or disregard. As St.
Paul put it, “I see in my members another law at war with the law of my
mind.”
But how do you build up that strength so that you always make the right
decision? St. Paul answers it plainly: “God through Christ.” Did you
notice that he didn’t say anything about growing in strength? Because
becoming strong isn’t just asking for strength. More than that, it is
building a relationship.
As we build that relationship with God by spending time with Him, three
things happen. One, we grow in grace. Two, we learn His ways, and
three, we love Him more. Ultimately, when life asks us to choose, our
response will reflect the depth of our relationship with Jesus. Rod Velez (rod.velez@gmail.com)
Reflection:
No matter who you are, what you’ve done, or what others say about you,
you are priceless in God’s eyes. He wants to strengthen His relationship
with you if you would only let Him.
More than the need to be strong, what I desire most is to have a deeper and more meaningful relationship with You, Lord. Amen.
