GOOD FRIDAY
GOD’S RED-LETTER DAY
See, my servant shall prosper, he shall be raised high and greatly exalted. – Isaiah 52:13
Today, we Catholics will troop to the church like ants, a swarm of believers, sweltering in the summer heat as we listen to the priest deliver his sermon. Some of us will attend the procession afterwards. It is all usual, ordinary, expected.
But today is no ordinary day. It is God’s red-letter day — His Valentine’s Day for each of us written in His own blood.
Today, Jesus looks at you and me and gives a smile full of love and tenderness. He says, “You are worth dying for, worth giving my last breath for.” With resolve, He looks at the cross and meets His destiny head-on, as a father would look at an overseas contract that he must sign, as a mother would look at a long day ahead. Today, Jesus is exalted because He chose to forgive rather than to condemn, to receive pain rather than to lash out, to love rather than to smite.
Today is God’s love letter day for each of us. Don’t forget what day it is. Look at Him and remember. Look at Him and be loved. Look at Him and be saved. Joy Sosoban (jsosoban@gmail.com)
REFLECTION:
Let me be silent, oh Lord. And let me listen to Your cries of love.
In freedom You gave Yourself for me. So in freedom I give myself to You. I love You, Jesus!
St. Crescentia Hoess, pray for us.
