Being a Catholic does not mean being in a religion that believes in Jesus. It means being Jesus to others in this scandal-riddled world - Daily Bible Reflections October 13,2014

BREATH OF FRESH AIR

“...and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.” – Luke 11:31

Cardinal Bergoglio of Argentina, now known as Pope Francis, is the first non- European pontiff in 1,300 years. People see him as a breath of fresh air in this scandal-riddled Church. For a start, instead of blessing the people in St. Peter’s Square as all popes did in the past upon being elected, he asked the people to bless him.
In the rise of cases of corrupt clergymen, let us not look at the fallibility of these men but at the infallibility of God who called them. Let’s remember that despite everything scandalous that hog the news, God is in control even if it may not seem that way at times. What we need is faith to believe in God’s sovereignty, and not faith in the news that people spread.
In time, people will realize that they are riding in the right ship sailing through the storms and turbulences of this life. Even if many people have jumped ship and are transferring to other boats, eventually everyone will see that beneath the face of the Pope, who is steering this ship towards heaven, is the face of Jesus, the real Captain of this ship. Reflection: Being a Catholic does not mean being in a religion that believes in Jesus. It means being Jesus to others in this scandal-riddled world.

Abba, let us remember always that the same Spirit in Jesus is the same Spirit You gave us, so that we will be Jesus in this world, and not just a cheap imitation.

St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, pray for us.
