How can we take Jesus’ light and let it shine this Advent season? - Daily Bible Reflections November 29,2014

BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE!

“Be careful not to let yourselves become occupied with too much feasting and drinking and with the worries of this life, or that Day may suddenly catch you like a trap.” – Luke 21:34

I have a friend who is already undergoing dialysis at the age of 30. He spends almost P10,000 a week for his treatment.
His unhealthy lifestyle of drinking and eating salty junk food destroyed his renal system. We talked once and he cried in regret for not taking care of his body. Now, he can no longer enjoy eating and drinking because his diet is severely restricted upon his doctor’s orders. What a pity.
Similar to our spiritual life, we can’t take for granted our relationship with God. As early as possible, we should nurture it for we don’t know when the end of our biological lives will come.
As we approach the Advent season, let it be a time of finding joy in prayer. Cardinal Chito Tagle said, “If you spend six hours going around to shop, you should spend at least six hours in prayer in order to find true joy.” I am confident to say that one way to escape the miseries of evil and the weariness of life is to indulge ourselves in spiritual activities like worship, the Eucharist and adoration before the Blessed Sacrament. Do it, my friend… before it’s too late! Dho Rimando (dougsterrimando@yahoo.com.ph)

Reflection: How can we take Jesus’ light and let it shine this Advent season?

Lord, Your joy is always my strength. Teach me to have a humble and contrite heart as I follow You.

Servant of God John of Montecorvino, pray for us.
