ABUSING AUTHORITY
“Who, then, is the faithful and prudent servant, whom the master has put in charge of his household...?” – Matthew 24:45
While I was pregnant, reports of a nanny physically abusing her ward
caught on video were being shown on the news. I always changed the
channel because I couldn’t bear to watch it. Thinking of any child being
mistreated was too painful, and too stressful, especially for an
expectant mom.
It broke my heart to imagine entrusting my precious child to someone
who would inflict pain, thinking nobody would find out, abusing the
authority entrusted to her.
God has given us authority over all creation. We break His heart
whenever we abuse this authority. We break His heart when we are
reckless in our roles as stewards. We break His heart when we hurt
others.
Perhaps if we see how our actions hurt our loving God, we might strive to be more faithful to Him. Kitty D. Ferreria (kittydulay@yahoo.com)
Reflection: What instances have you abused your authority?
Lord, help me to be a faithful servant.
St. Monica, pray for us.
