Memorial of the Martyrdom of John the Baptist
STANDING STRONG
“Do not be terrified on account of them.” – Jeremiah 1:17
After some time in the corporate world, Dan resigned to join the priesthood. Many thought he was throwing his business opportunities away. Some assumed an emotional trauma made him veer off in an unlikely direction. Some remarked that it was a shame that he won’t be able to marry.
Sam, on the contrary, was already a priest for many years. He met someone special and decided to leave the priesthood to get married. You can imagine the surprise and intense reactions to this news. Some said he was weak or was tempted by evil spirits. Some laughed and quite a few cried.
Dan and Sam got confused and sad when friends and family did not fully support their marital and career decisions. But not everyone understands that we must march to the sound of our respective drummers. Our destinies unfold according to God’s plan.
Placing our trust in the Lord becomes our source of strength. We must stand fast against those who are against us. Though the steps we take to grow in God’s grace are difficult, knowing He walks beside us makes our hearts lighter. Gina J. Verdolaga (mgjver@yahoo.com)
Reflection: Do you have the courage and determination to go where the Lord leads you?
Dear God, may the light of Your divine guidance always shine on me.
St. Sabina, pray for us.
