WITNESSING
... and let them be as a pendant on your forehead... – Deuteronomy 6:8
Jim Henson, known as the creator of The Muppets and The Sesame Street characters among others, once said, “Kids don’t remember what you try to teach them. They remember what you are.”
Christian teachers are best remembered not by what they teach but how they live. The same is true for us parents who are first evangelizers in our own home long before we “go and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19).
Our children, Peevee and Trina, are now adults, living their own lives, by God’s grace. But Raul and I know that no matter where they are, they would start a meal with a prayer, hear Mass every Sunday, look forward to attending the nine-day Misa de Gallo (Christmas dawn Masses), love the poor, speak the truth, and much more.
Today’s First Reading reminds us to “love the Lord, your God, with your whole heart, and with your whole being, and with your whole strength” (Deuteronomy 6:5). Loving God begins at home and it begins with us. We are to be living witnesses for transformation in Christ and the best testimony would be our own children. “For every tree is known by its fruits” (Luke 6:44) Mari Sison-Garcia (mari_sison_garcia@yahoo.com)

Lord, fill me with Your love and grace that You may become a pendant on my forehead wherever I go.
