WHO IS GOD TO YOU?
He is our God; we are the people He cares for; the flock for which He provides. – Psalm 95:7
Who
is God to you? This was one of the thousand questions our philosophy
professor asked us in college when she introduced a topic on God to my
young and pliant mind.
I came up with so many adjectives in my mind, but the first thing that
popped up was the word infallible— a highfaluting word I learned in high
school. Since we had to defend our answers, I said, “For me, God is
infallible because only He is perfect, and I see myself as an imperfect
being.”
I also asked my upper CG (Caring Group) the same philosophical question
when it was my turn to facilitate our meeting. My definition of God
remained the same except that now, I also see Him as a Father and a Best
Friend. To most of my CG mates, God is a Father because either their
dads died early or were absentee fathers.
My professor in Philosophy said that how we see God has something to do
with how we see ourselves. I couldn’t agree with her more. Ems Sy Chan (havenofleeanne@yahoo.com)
Reflection: God is our Shepherd who lovingly and sacrificially cares for us, His flock.
Father,
help us see You as who You really are — not as a punitive God but as a
loving Father and Shepherd who tends to His flock.
Blessed Frederick Ozanam, pray for us.
