HONESTY
Jesus cried out and said, “Whoever believes in me believes not only in me but also in the one who sent me.” – John 12:44
Every
now and then, we are faced with situations that would test our honesty
regarding money matters and our faith in God. Truly, “The love of money
is the root of all evils” (1 Timothy 6:10). Come to think of it, aren’t
all problems due to money?
Just
look around and you will see: (a) Best friends Andy and Bob becoming
best enemies because of unpaid debt; (b) Allan is fired from his job as a
banker because of malversation of funds; (c) Siblings Rod and Amy are
estranged because of unequal division of the inheritance from their
parents; (d) Housewife Cecilia killing husband Alberto because she wants
everything to be hers and none to the mistress; (e) The marriage of
Roel and Anne breaking up because she’s earning more than him.
Aren’t
these concrete proof of how the love of money brings forth dishonesty
and unfaithfulness to God I remember the story of my OB-Gyne professor
back in med school. A patient went to her clinic to ask her for one
thing at the right price: an abortion. At that time, the OB-Gyne was in
financial straits and the offer was tempting. But she dismissed the
thought because of honesty and her faith in God. Dr. Henry Yu (henrio_md@yahoo.com)
Reflection: The secret to happiness is to simplify life and live simply by being honest and faithful to God Almighty.
Father, remind us always to be honest and faithful to You, no matter what.
St. Fidelis of Sigmaringen, priest and martyr, pray for us.
