OOPS, OFF THE RECORD!
“What eye has not seen, and ear has not heard …this God has revealed to us… – 1 Corinthians 2: 9-10
Bulong Pulungan is a media forum held at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza every Tuesday from 12 noon to 2 p.m. I regularly attend it, representing the magazine I work for. We invite politicians and other people in the news to enlighten us about hot issues.
As its name connotes, the forum discusses the issues both in whispers as we have lunch, and in formal symposium after the meal. The whispers are side stories, sometimes deep background, oftentimes just banter and jokes about the news we gather from our guests — which we cannot, dare not print, especially when they say, “Off the record.” Like when… oops, off the record!
So when people talk about the headlines, I just keep mum about what I know behind the headlines.
Today’s readings tell us what St. Paul knew and what the demon knew about Jesus Christ that, at the time, ordinary people did not know yet. How privileged, how blessed are we who now know that He is our Savior. That’s the Good News — much better, much more important than what we can ever gather.Cynthia Santiago (cusantiago@gmail.com)
