Love Rules

“It is no use for them to worship me, because they teach human rules as though they were my laws!” – Mark 7:7

Joint Choral Concert Rules:
1. Tie hair one inch or more below the ears with elastic and four hair clips. Only five strands are allowed as bangs.
2. Shirts must be untucked. Length must be six inches from the waistline. You may request scissors from the coordinator to cut the shirt if it goes beyond the limit.
3. Blocking is according to height. Members of the host choir stay in front. If those in front of you are too tall, find an opening at their waist level or between their legs.
4. Choreography was not taught so follow the host choir. Any wrong move will cause you to be banned for life.
A recent experience that caused tension provoked me to draft these mock rules. They’re ridiculous, of course, but only to stress the point that sometimes we become too obsessed with rules. Discord arises when we take a hard-line stance to impose them. We forget to build relationships that move people to obey us gladly.
Our rules will be better observed when we first follow Jesus’ law of love. Lella Santiago (mirellasantiago@yahoo.com)

REFLECTION:
Am I too focused on having my rules obeyed that I forget that showing love and concern is more important?

Help me, Lord, to remember to follow Your law of love.

Blessed John Francis Burté and Companions, pray for us.
