A Safe Refuge

Therefore let us celebrate the feast, not with the old yeast of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. – 1 Corinthians 5:8

We had relatives visiting us from Hong Kong when a tragedy happened. A bus was held hostage for hours. The drama had a bloody ending where a number of Hong Kong tourists were killed.
The Chinese government showed efficiency in locating their nationals here in the Philippines. Our guests received a text message asking them to leave the Philippines immediately. But they did not heed their government’s advice and continued their visit with us until their scheduled departure. They even joined us at The Feast, which included a Eucharistic celebration, even though they were not Catholics. They felt secure because they were with us — their trusted relatives. To them, we were a safe haven.
Similarly, there will be crises and storms in our lives. But we will not cower with fear when trial comes because we put our trust in Jesus, our ever-present haven and refuge in times of trouble. Donna España (donna.espana@yahoo.com)

REFLECTION:
The safest place to be is at the center of God’s perfect will.

Lord, You are my rock, my fortress, my refuge and my strength. There is nothing I shall fear.

St. Thomas of Villanova, pray for us.
