RAISE THEM WELL
“Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.” – Matthew 18:4
I’m
48 years old and have witnessed countless episodes of so-called
“politics” at the office, within religious congregations, non-profit
foundations and church organizations. Sadly, I myself became a victim of
it a number of times, which led me to take legal action against the perpetrators, withdraw from the service, cut off ties with people, and resign from the job.
My son is 23 years old and a neophyte in the corporate world. Slowly, he is finding out that mean people abound and ill intentions exist. He is disoriented.
In one of our mother-son talks, I made him aware of such realities and
reminded him to be on his guard. More importantly, he should never be
the cause of the pain and downfall of people. His gentle response was,
“You raised me to be good, Mama. Don’t worry.” I was overjoyed.
Parents have the primary responsibility for inculcating the right
values and forming the character of their children to make them good and
productive citizens. What a peaceful and happy world it would be if
only all parents would teach their children well and their children
would live up to the good example of their parents. Marie Franco (mariefranco_pie@yahoo.com)
Reflection: What other positive influences can you pass on to the next generation and to the people around you?
Lord, continue to guide us that we may be good examples to those You have put under our care.
The Guardian Angels, pray for us. Memorial of the Guardian Angels
