ALL-NIGHTER
“The
disciples of John the Baptist fast often and offer prayers, and the
disciples of the Pharisees do the same; but yours eat and drink.” – Luke
5:33
I
had just come home from an almost all-nighter at a friend’s house, only
this all-nighter was of a different kind. No books, no notes, no
studying. The rendezvous of six people started with a short prayer of
gratitude for the day that was, followed by a feast of chips and home-cooked pasta. We even filled our
tanks with a few drinks — the non-alcoholic type of course. It was a
simple bonding session among friends and co-servants in the ministry, a
mini-thanksgiving party for all the blessings for the week.
Often, I imagine Jesus doing the same thing during His time of ministry
here on earth. His mission must have been daunting: days of walking
from one city to another, stopping at every request for healing, and
squeezing His way through multitudes of followers. But He must have also
stopped, rested and enjoyed a few good laughs and bonding sessions with
His disciples. He valued the mission, but He valued the missionaries as
well.
Then, I realized He wasn’t the God who was all work and no play, after all. Osy Erica (osy.erica@gmail.com)
Reflection: Have you spent a few moments to rest and enjoy recently? Know that it is OK to stop and smell the flowers.
Father, You are a happy God. Thank You for allowing me to stop, rest and spend a few good laughs with people I value.
Blessed Claudio Granzotto, pray for us.
