REMEMBER
If what you heard from the beginning remains in you, then you will remain in the Son and in the Father. – 1 John 2:24
A
series of failed relationships paved the way for Ann to seek God and
find healing. With her newfound love for God came self-love. She learned
to value herself and relied on God’s promise: the best husband she
could wish for. From then on, she became a faithful servant in her
Charismatic community. She taught catechism to kids and was a joy to be
with.
After years of serving the Lord, a new relationship blossomed.
Everything fell into place, and a marriage proposal was on its way. But
the guy suddenly called it quits.
The pain of a broken heart led Ann back to her old wayward self. She
left her community, stopped attending Mass, and returned to a life of
drinking, smoking and illicit affairs. Self-love turned into
self-destruction, and it seemed she had forgotten the God she had come
to personally know.
When something bad happens in our lives, we can choose to pull away
from God’s embrace or remain in His protection. But God has shown us His
great love for us from the beginning, when He sent Jesus to be our
Savior. Let us always remember that great love. Osy Erica (osy.erica@gmail.com).
Reflection: How do pain and suffering affect your relationship with God? Do you drift from God or do you move closer to Him?
Jesus,
when my heart is overwhelmed with pain, remind me of Your teachings.
Strengthen my faith as I cling to You and Your promises.
