SING! SING UNTO THE LORD!

Sing praise, play music; proclaim all his wondrous deeds! – Psalm 105:2

In 1992, my cousin, Belle, gave me my first Didache – a tiny booklet that changed my life big-time. So inspired by the reflections there, I wanted to be a Didache writer. But she knew that only community members were invited to write. “I’ll gladly join the community!” I replied. “Not possible,” she said, “you’ll need a husband first.” They were then with LOJ’s Homes for Christ — a couples group. Yeah, right, my husband just died. Where in heaven’s name do I buy one?
With the desire to serve the Lord awakened, I became a hanger-on — an LOJ member wannabe. Belle brought me along to many community activities, urging me to keep signing the attendance sheets. “They might get so fed up with seeing your name, they’ll finally accept you,” she said. In 2003, LOJ South finally opened its doors to singles.
I read the above verse fondly because today I sing with the South Feast Music Ministry (even got the chance to join the Kerygma Conference chorus). I also edit the South Feast bulletin being the secretariat head. And I’m a Didache writer! The Lord truly does wonderful things for people who love Him. Lella Santiago (mirellasantiago@yahoo.com)
