WITH A SMILE
Whether you eat or
drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God. – 1 Corinthians
10:31
Tina’s peers see her as a
breath of fresh air. Her smile lights up the room every time she walks in.
One payday, Tina’s
officemate, Joanne, complained about her salary. She said it wasn’t enough to
pay for her car loan and insisted that Tina treat her to lunch. Tina declined,
with a smile.
And as if Joanne had all the
right in the world to demand for a free lunch, she spoke in a condescending
tone. “You have no problems, you’re worry-free and you just got your salary.
You should share your blessings,” Joanne demanded.
“I give all my salary to Mom
who has a two million-peso debt that she owed after our house and her business
burned down two years ago. Sorry, I can’t treat you to lunch,” Tina explained.
Shocked, Joanne took a deep
breath and asked how could Tina smile every day as if everything was OK.
Still smiling, Tina answered,
“When I smile, it doesn’t mean I don’t have problems. It means I’m carrying a
symbol of hope — that there’s a God who says everything will be OK. So I smile,
decide to be happy, and make the effort to keep a positive disposition.” Carlo Lorenzo (carloflorenzo@yahoo.com)
Reflection: Wearing a smile is one simple way to glorify God. How
can you glorify God today?
Thank You, Lord, for enabling us to see Your glory even in the
simplest of things. May we glorify You always.
St. Claude la
Colombiere, pray for us.
