FAITH WITH
EXPECTATIONS
“She said, if I but touch his clothes, I shall be cured.” – Mark
5:28
Some people live life this
way: Expect the worse, so that you don’t get frustrated. I have also fallen
into this thinking from time to time. I’ve discovered that it’s a tragic and
tiring way to live. You’re constantly on a defensive, defeated disposition, not
to mention maligning the faithfulness and immense power of God in your life.
In today’s Gospel, the woman
bled for years. She’d get the same disappointing medical result and
prescription, doctor after doctor, year after year. Yet, in spite of her
prolonged painful predicament, it did not hemorrhage her faith. Instead, her
faith came with expectations — she believed that just by a mere touch of Jesus’
clothes, she would be healed.
Friend, because of God’s
undefeated track record throughout history, we can live with expectant faith.
We can walk in “godfidence” (godly confidence), knowing that victory will
always be the end-result, no matter what trial, turmoil or tragedy we face. So
expect the best, because that’s just how God is. Greater things are yet to
come. Mike Viñas (mikemichaelfcv@yahoo.com)
Reflection: If you’ve not won yet, if you’re not yet the champion,
that means it’s not yet the end.
Father, with expectant faith I declare that every healing, miracle
and breakthrough I need is on its way. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
St. Blasé, bishop and martyr, pray for us.
