GENEROSITY GOES A
LONG WAY
“I tell you truly, this poor widow put in more than all the rest.” – Luke 21:3
There was a missionary in Hong Kong named John Bechtel who wanted to start a Christian camp for evangelization.
A bankrupt, multimillion-dollar hotel became available for sale so he
made an offer to buy the property. He then went around the world to
raise the money he would need.
Unfortunately, no one was willing to help and he returned to Hong Kong
hopeless. Then one day, he got a letter from a young girl that included
$1 and a note saying she wanted him to use this to purchase the camp. He
prayed and took the girl’s $1 to the real estate closing and the
company decided to accept the $1 as full payment! Since the camp first opened, over a million people have been blessed by their experience during their stay.
In today’s Gospel, we are challenged to give not from our surplus. Just
like the message of the poor widow and the young girl, it’s not about
the amount you give but the love you put into it that matters. JC Libiran (jclibiran@ymail.com)
Reflection: “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.” (Winston Churchill)
Jesus, make my life a testimony of Your generosity.
St. Andrew Dung-Lac and Companions, pray for us.
