LIFE-CHANGING DEATH
...And their going forth from us, utter destruction. But they are in peace. For if to others, indeed, they seem punished, yet is their hope full of immortality. – Wisdom 3:3-4
“That’s the thing: the day before your life changes forever is just like any other day.”
The character in the series Switched at Birth couldn’t have said it any better. Most of the defining moments in our lives come unannounced.
Mine came about seven years ago when my Aunt Lyn died in a freak vehicular accident. Her death killed my joy and ended the life in me. For a very long time, I was angry with God. How could He let a person so close to my heart die? How could He let me die?
Just like me, some people may think of death as the end, the major halt, the finish line. This may be because we value this life more, thinking that it is the be-all and end-all. We forget that this earthly life is only temporary and that true life is in heaven, when we can finally praise God with all the angels and saints.
Today, as we remember all the departed, especially those close to our hearts, let us be reminded that death is not the end but the beginning of an everlasting life with God. Osy Erica (osy.erica@gmail.com)
Reflection: “For we know that if our earthly dwelling, a tent, should be destroyed, we have a building from God, a dwelling not made with hands, eternal in heaven.” (2 Corinthians 5:1)
Lord, let me not be afraid of death. When the time comes, give me the courage to face death in peace, knowing well that it is the gateway to seeing Your face.
All Souls, pray for us.
