NO HARSH GOD
“… cannot be my disciple.” – Luke 14: 26, 27, 33
My niece, Nikki, and I were discussing the results of her Math exams one day:
Pepper: Nikki, what did you get on your Math exam?
Nikki: I got minus one.
Pepper: Did you know the correct answer to that number?
Nikki: Yes.
Pepper: So why didn’t you get a perfect score?
Harsh?
I don’t think so. As I explained to Nikki: “If you were an 80 student,
I’ll be very happy with an 80. I’ll even throw a party if you get an 81.
But you are a 100 student, and I am only satisfied when you get 100.”
You see, Nikki herself set my standards at 100.
In today’s Gospel, I believe that Jesus set standards for His disciples in the same way. We cannot be His disciple unless we love
Him above everyone that matters to us — even our own selves — carry our
own crosses, and put little value to our material possessions.

REFLECTION:
Am I really giving my best for Jesus?
Lord, teach me to be generous to You, so I can offer to You all that I can give, and all that You deserve.
St. Didacus, pray for us.
