TOGETHER WE STAND
I
urge you, then, to make me completely happy by having the same
thoughts, sharing the same love, and being one in soul and mind. –
Philippians 2:2
If
you grew up with at least one brother or sister, there is a big chance
that you experienced sibling rivalry while growing up. Our kids and
their cousins have something more advanced — cousin rivalry.
Each
one of them went through a stage of rivalry with the cousin closest to
their age. Every time we have our family reunion at my parents’ house,
we would have intermittent crying and fighting among the younger kids
because of toys, food or attention.
But
this doesn’t hold true for my eightyear- old son, Jac, and his
six-year-old cousin, Yana. Every time I’d check on them, they’d be
together. In family pictures, they’re usually beside each other. Their
serene companionship is a joy to watch for parents like me.
In
the same way, our Heavenly Father enjoys seeing His children loving and
supporting one another. He created us to listen to a friend’s problem,
visit a sick relative or share our resources with others. God, our
loving Father, made us to be a community of brothers and sisters
supporting each other, not a nation divided by individualistic ideas. Alvin Fabella (alvinfabella@yahoo.com)

REFLECTION:
“Any
country that divides itself into groups which fight each other will not
last very long. And any town or family that divides itself into groups which fight each other will fall apart.” (Matthew 12:25)
Jesus,
You showed us how to value relationships with family and friends. May I
be able to love despite conflicts in the relationships I have.
Venerable Solanus Casey, pray for us.
