BELIEVE IN THE

UNSEEN

 

Although you have not seen him you love him; even though you do not see him now yet believe in him… – 1 Peter 1:8

 

One Sunday in November 2012, my husband and I treated our kids to a movie date. We watched Rise of the Guardians, an inspiring tale about having faith and keeping one’s childlike wonder.

       Our date also became an opportunity for us to talk to our young children about believing in something even if we could not see it. I took it one step further and told them that, just as the children in the movie believed in the Guardians even if they couldn’t see them, we, too, believe in Jesus, even if we can’t see Him. We believe in angels and their ability to protect us, even if we can’t see them. We believe in the saints and their powerful intercession, even if we can’t see them.

       More importantly, we love Jesus even if we can’t see Him or touch Him. It may be hard to do so — even we adults find it challenging at times — but this is the truth: We love Him and believe in Him… yes, even when we have not seen Him. Tina Santiago-Rodriguez (tina@trulyrichmom.com)

DREAM BOARD

 

But Zion said, “The Lord has forsaken me; my Lord has forgotten me.” – Isaiah 49:14

 

It sits on the edge of the bookshelf, right where I can see it as soon as I get up from bed in the morning. The transparent glass doors allow a complete view of what used to be a blank white illustration board but is now my dream board.

       I see cut-out pictures from magazines of everything I dream of having and being. There’s a photo of a girl exercising, a world map, and a happy family with two kids, each signifying my dreams and goals for health, recreation and my future.

       Years have gone by, but the images on my dream board have still remained images. I’m still not a size 4. My passport still doesn’t have a single stamp on it. I am in my 30s and still single (as of this writing).

       Sometimes I think maybe God has forgotten me. Maybe, with the billions of prayers He gets every minute, mine came as a tiny whisper that He didn’t hear. But every time I feel nothing is happening, God readily comforts me with the message that I am never forgotten. Father, You know my heart’s desires. Forgive me when I doubt that You’ll make them come true. Comfort me when I lose hope. And remind me that never for a single moment do You forget me.

SEEDS YOU PLANT

WILL BEAR FRUIT

 

Then he embraced them and blessed them, placing his hands on them. – Mark 10:16

 

Last year, I received news that filled my heart with so much joy. You see, 17 years ago, I worked with a bunch of teenagers in the Light of Jesus Family. I personally took them under my wing.

       But when they hit their twenties, some of them got busy with their careers, got married, had babies, and worked abroad. I didn’t hear from them for many years.

       When our international missionary, Roy Pasimio, came home from a visit to the Middle East last year, he told me that we now have new video Feasts in that part of the world. I asked him, “Who are our leaders there?” And Roy told me, “Remember the teenagers that were part of our youth group years ago? They’re now our leaders there.”

       Yes, the seeds planted in their youth are now flourishing and bearing fruit.

       Friend, don’t be discouraged when it seems like nothing is happening to the people you’re trying to disciple. Your role is to continue to plant and bless them. God’s role is to grow the plant.
